WHAT IS SLATE?
Slate is an open-source platform built and controlled by schools to define and track the skills that matter most to their students. Slate’s open-source approach ensures schools retain complete control over their software and data while sharing the systems and tools that support their innovative models. —slate.is
Building 21’s competency-based tracking platform is built within Slate as the Competency and Task Dashboards. These dashboards were built to track student progress within a competency-based portfolio model. Watch this video to learn more about how the portfolio model works.
The Competency Dashboard allows students and teachers to track progress through the competency-based portfolio model. At any time, any teacher can submit evidence of progress for any competency for any student. Each instance of evidence is called a demonstration of learning and can include skill ratings for multiple competencies across multiple competency areas.
The Task Dashboard allows teachers to manage tasks for groups of students. Traditional courses can be organized in the task dashboard but teachers are able to rate skills for any competency. For students, the task dashboard helps them learn project management skills as they filter the most important tasks.
