We've been there, too.
When we set out to design our own competency-based school in 2014, we hoped finding an LMS would be the easy part. It wasn’t.
We searched widely and tested just about everything on the market. We found that most systems were built around traditional structures— grade levels, courses, seat time—and not for the kind of learning model we were trying to build. So we took the leap and built our own LMS.
Two years ago, we released Beacon more broadly to help reduce the lift for schools and districts navigating the same challenges.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our goal isn’t to push our platform, but to support schools in choosing tools that genuinely align with their vision for learning.
Every LMS comes with tradeoffs. The key is knowing which tradeoffs you’re willing to make based on your vision for learning.
